Nowadays ‘enterprise’ is often described as being the next generation of Richard Bransons or Alan Sugars, but Enterprising Streak believes it is much closer to home. We describe it as being more of a mindset or an attitude to problem solving. Some of the key characteristics of an enterprising person:

What is a Sector?
A sector or industry is a group of organisations that offer similar products or services. For example music, film and television are different sectors.
What is a Theme?
A theme describes the type of event, resource or support available. Examples of Enterprising Streak themes include women, disability, start-up, young people etc.
Where is the East Midlands?
The East Midlands is at the heart of the UK – it covers the counties of Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. It reaches from the stunning Peak District National Park over to the Lincolnshire Coast, and includes the vibrant cities of Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln and Derby. About 4.3 million people live in our region with over 260,000 businesses.
What is an Entrepreneur?
Entrepreneur is a term applied to the type of personality who is willing to take upon themselves a new venture or enterprise and accepts full responsibility for the outcome.
What is a Social Enterprise?
Social enterprises are social or community driven organisations which offer goods or services for a social purpose. They involve social values more deeply than other more corporate ogranisations.
What is a Charity?
A charity is an organisation which provides goods or money to those in need showing an attitude of kindness and understanding to others. A charity can also have certain financial benefits including VAT exemption, gift aid and funding arrangements.
What is an Economy?
An economy is the system by which the products and services are created and sold within a country or community. In the context of enterprisingstreak.co.uk the economy relates to how much money is generated in the East Midlands and how that can improve job opportunities, average earnings and new innovative industries.
What’s an SME?
Businesses that employ between 1 to 10 people are generally known as Small Enterprises, and those who employ between 11 – 249 are know as Medium Enterprises. As shorthand people generally refer to businesses of this size as Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Who is emda?
East Midlands Development Agency (emda) is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England, set up in 1999 to develop the region’s economy. The main focus of emda is to increase economic activity (job opportunities, average earnings, industries etc.) in the East Midlands.
