You know the most about the place where you work, your community. You probably know how to make it a better place to live, what might attract more people to the area or what might reduce crime?
Giving your time to someone who needs your help – like gardening for someone who can’t, helping put the rubbish bins out for them (and bringing them in again), or just calling by to say ‘hello’ can be a great start to an enterprising future. You’ll see for yourself the advantage of ‘getting involved’ and making a difference to other people’s lives.
Setting up a local radio show or a ‘What’s On’ magazine might be a way to give something back to your community. Formal organisations created for the purpose of benefiting a community are called social enterprises. If you want to learn more about how a social enterprise works, then why not volunteer? Social enterprises often rely heavily on volunteers and it offers you an opportunity to gain new enterprising skills whilst making a difference to your community and the lives of local people.
